Ipod Stories

In my math/science practicum class I was in this semester my mentor teacher had Ipod stories. While she was with one reading group she would have the other reading group on the circle rug with an Ipod for each student. They would listen to a story that she had previously recorded that went with what they were learning at that time or just something fun that went with the holiday. At the end of the story she recorded a small assignment for the students to complete. The assignmnet was something as simple as to go back to their desks and write who was the main character, the setting, and the plot of the story. This activity helped the other group with being quiet while she did her reading group for the day and was very educational. Each day the groups would change. I thought this idea was great for keeping the classroom managable and integrating technology!

When I was looking for lesson plans to integrate technology in to I quickly found that it was rather easy because most lesson plans didn’t have any technology used at all. I was looking for interactive websites or games to use during my math practicum to help with teaching time to the third graders and came across this website. I used a site under math called clock wise, but their are so many others for almost all topics!

When I was on a break in one of my classes I had a discussion with a couple of peers about how technology is getting to be kind of crazy in the classroom. Don’t get me wrong I think that technology should be in classroom because it helps out in many areas of teaching, but it really got me thinking and so I decided to research on it a bit and found this article from a blog that discussed a few of the drawbacks of having technology in the classoom.
